The aim of the course is to introduce some basic mathematical concepts.
• Introduction to the set theory: definitions, notations and examples; subsets, union, intersection and relative complement, product of sets. Difference between classes and sets, Russell’s paradox. Numerical sets: natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, real numbers.
• Relations and functions: properties of relations; order relations, equivalence relations and equivalence classes. Functions and their properties; total, injective, surjective and bijective functions; composition between functions and inverse function. Equalities and inequalities with exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions.
• The mathematical induction.
• Elements of mathematical logic: structures and languages; terms, quantifiers and formulas; interpretation of a formula, satisfaction and truth.
Written and oral final examination.
