IR and X-ray absorption spectroscopy for interdisciplinary studies in biotechnological and cultural heritage fields (IRIS lab)
Research activities in this field concern applications to interdisciplinary studies in Biotechnology and Cultural Heritage of spectroscopy, microspectroscopy and imaging in the medium and near infrared range and in the X-ray range (XANES and EXAFS), including multivariate statistical analysis of spectral data.
Research interests
Topic Description Research area
Optical techniques for cultural heritage applications Cultural heritage applications are focused on the implementation and use of optical techniques for nondestructive diagnostics including: multi-modal imaging in infrared/thermal bands, multispectral imaging, three dimensional survey of surfaces through laser conoscopy micro-profilometry, characterization of art works through infrared spectroscopy. Experimental and applied physics
Applied physics to cultural heritage
Spectroscopy, microspectroscopy and imaging in the near and mid-infrared Infrared spectroscopy studies are carried out at the IRIS (Infra Red for Interdisciplinary Studies) Lab dedicated to spectroscopy, microspectroscopy and imaging in the near and mid-infrared. The Lab equipment includes a Bruker Optics Vertex 70 FTIR spectrometer coupled to a Bruker Optics Hyperion 3000 microscope with detectors for the near and mid-infrared and with a mid-infrared 64 x 64 pixel MCT Focal Plane Array detector. The interdisciplinary research activities include biotechnological and cultural heritage applications of FTIR spectroscopy and use of multivariate statistical analysis techniques.
