We first motivate a definition of tau-exceptional sequences for arbitrary finite dimensional algebras and then discuss a mutation operation on such sequences. Connections to the study of wide subcategories and torsion classes are central to our discussion. Based on joint work with Bethany Marsh and Eric Hanson.
