Particle methods for global optimization problems (MAT/08 - 1 ECTS)

Speaker:  Dr. Claudia Totzeck - University of Wuppertal
  Monday, May 9, 2022 at 9:30 AM

Abstract:

In this course, we give an introduction to particle-based global optimization methods. Many of these methods are biologically or physically inspired as the firefly algorithm, ant colony and wind-driven optimization or simulated annealing. Other methods, for example, particle swarm optimization and consensus-based optimization, combine ideas from opinion dynamics such as consensus formation with swarm intelligence. We will discuss similarities of the algorithms and compare them with respect to function evaluations, computational cost and performance.
