Particle accelerators, such as the LHC at CERN, take fundamental particles up to the speed of light by exposing them to properly excited electromagnetic fields. Radio Frequency (RF) cavities are responsible for the acceleration of the beam. The fields created within these devices are extremely sensitive to the geometry of the cavity itself. Given the importance of a proper representation of the computa- tional domains, Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) is very promising tool for the simulation of such systems. Indeed a defining feature of IGA is that it allows the exact treatment of geometries defined by Computer Aided Design (CAD) even at the coarsest level of discretization refinement. This talk will give an introductory overview of CAD geometries and their role in Isogeometric Analysis which will be illustrated by examples of application to the simulation of accelerator cavities.
