Mobile computing devices are becoming more and more ubiquitous,
providing the users with a wide class of services that add to the more
conventional communication abilities. As a result, mobile networks, in
principle, may feature relevant computation capabilities, stemming from the
presence of multitudes of computing nodes. However, this potential is
usually unexploited due to the selfish behavior of the network nodes. In
such a context, a different scenario is envisioned, where nodes can
collaborate to distribute service tasks and to offer new services to the
user. In this seminar, the issues concerning distributed computation with
mobility are introduced, and a simple framework for approaching
collaboration on an unreliable network is presented. In addition, solutions
developed specifically to provide basic services, such as localization and
hierarchy maintenance, are also described.
