Mehran Tarif
PhD Student in Computer Science
University of Verona, Italy
I am a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Verona (Supervisor: Prof. Davide Quaglia), funded by the iNEST Project (Spoke 7 – Agrifood). My research focuses on Agricultural AI, computer vision, 3D plant reconstruction, digital twins, and neuromorphic computing, with the aim of developing intelligent systems that advance precision agriculture and sustainable farming.
My current work includes VISAR, an intelligent video-based frame selection pipeline that improves the efficiency and quality of agricultural 3D plant phenotyping. Alongside this, I am conducting ongoing research in digital twins and neuromorphic computing to design scalable, energy-efficient, and biologically inspired AI systems for agricultural and IoT applications. I also have experience in embedded systems and agricultural digital twins, where I designed and deployed automated monitoring systems for real-world field studies.
Before joining Verona, I completed an MSc in Software Engineering at Islamic Azad University (Ardabil, Iran), where I graduated first in my class with a perfect GPA and worked on energy-efficient routing in underwater IoT networks, resulting in several publications. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, which provides me with an interdisciplinary perspective bridging healthcare and technology.
Beyond my research, I am active in teaching and mentoring master’s students in AI and computer vision, and I create global educational content through my Silicium7 YouTube channel, reaching over 10,000 subscribers and 1 million views with programming and AI tutorials.
My broader research interests include deep learning for precision agriculture, digital twins, neuromorphic computing, embedded AI systems, fraud detection, and large language models.
