This course has the objective to provide the students with the concepts and methodologies for the design and implementation of spatial databases. In particular:
- A methodology for the conceptual modelling of a geographical database in GeoUML will be presented.
- The possible mappings of a conceptual schema to a geo-relational database will be illustrated.
- A geo-relational algebra for quering a geo-relational database will be proposed.
Moreover, some advanced arguments concerning the theory of the relational databases will be illustrated: functional dependecies, normal forms, relational calculus, active databases and data warehausing.
