Lesson timetable

Learning outcomes

The aim is to introduce some basic mathematical concepts.

Syllabus

Introduction to set theory: definitions, notations and examples; subsets, unions, intersections and relative complements;
difference between classes and sets, Russell's paradox.
Relations and functions: properties of relations; order relations,
equivalence relations and equivalence classes. Functions and their properties; total, injective, surjective and bijective functions;
composition between functions and the inverse function.
Cardinality: finite and infite sets; countable and uncountable sets;
cardinality of sets of numbers.
The mathematical induction.
Elements of mathematical logic: structures and languages;
terms, quantifiers and formula; interpretation of a formula, satisfaction and truth.
