Curriculum

My research interests, mainly devoted to biotechnological, biological and biomedical applications of FTIR spectroscopy (including studies on microorganisms for oenological production, plant cell wall metabolism, biosynthesis of nano-particles), were recently extended to non invasive diagnostics for Cultural Heritage.

 

Since 2016 I returned on Synchrotron Radiation research devoted to studying the biosynthesis of Selenium nanoparticles by bacterial strains through X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES and EXAFS) and by X-ray micro-fluorescence.

I also perform a research activity in the field of Physics Education in collaboration with the Research Unit in Physics Education of the University of Udine (URDF), especially devoted to the teaching of Modern Physics to non Physicists and to Teachers’ Education, following the “Inquiry-Based Learning” approach.

Spatial light modulators Development of spatial light modulators with high contrast of refractive index in the near infrared, based on the coupling of a liquid crystal to a photoconductive material sensitive in the near infrared (OpDATe Lab) in collaboration with the Nice non linear institute (INLN). Spectroscopy, microspectroscopy and imaging in the near and mid-infrared Infrared spectroscopy studies are carried out at the IRIS (Infra Red for Interdisciplinary Studies) Lab dedicated to spectroscopy, microspectroscopy and imaging in the near and mid-infrared. The Lab equipment includes a Bruker Optics Vertex 70 FTIR spectrometer coupled to a Bruker Optics Hyperion 3000 microscope with detectors for the near and mid-infrared and with a mid-infrared 64 x 64 pixel MCT Focal Plane Array detector.
