The peer-to-peer (P2P) networking paradigm received a lot of attention
in recent years. One of the challenges posed by P2P is represented by
the design process, since performance-oriented protocol design requires
tools for analyzing the protocols themselves. In this talk I present my
research activities in the last years in this field. I will give an
overview of the different problems I have tackled and the corresponding
solutions. In particular, I will show the impact of the overlay graph on
the distribution performances, such as the download time, or the
influence of the information management policies on the data
availability. I will conclude the talk with the current analysis of the
hybrid server / peer-assisted content distribution systems.
