Abstract "In this course we present the mathematical foundations that are needed to formulate mathematical models based on kinetic partial differential equations, which account for a statistical description of the dynamics of a given ensemble of particles in phase space. We will present specific examples in various fields of application, with a focus on Astrophysics and the kinetic theory of gases. We will also discuss links of this family of models with descriptions at other scales of observation."
