What are the implications of new interfaces for we who must navigate
the landscapes that they open to us? We will raise a few emerging and
non-traditional issues in Human-Computer Interaction, influenced by
perspectives including design, architecture, psychology, theories of
action and the body, phenomenology, sociality, and affect or emotion.
We will discuss applications that have arisen in our work and others',
related to natural and synthetic interactions with dynamic
environments, and their relation to everyday and exotic situations we
may encounter in the evolving urban fabric. Some questions that seem
particularly pertinent: How can new interactions positively modulate
our functional, social, emotional, and bodily relations? How might
they transform public and private space to allow for more effective
use of our full sensual, communicational, corporeal, and affective
capacities, rather than merely facilitating connectivity and control?
What kinds of spaces may be developed to apprehend and adapt to our
habits? Or to modulate our awareness and presence in the physical,
social, and immaterial surroundings we daily encounter?
