Decision trees are widely used tools to represent decision making processes. In machine learning they play an important role for classification and regression. Decision trees have been widely employed also in complexity theory, data compression and several other areas of computer science. In this talk we discuss some of these applications and present theoretical results related to the construction of decision trees under different optimisation criteria focusing on diagnosis problems.
