Natural Computing studies the computing going on in Nature as well as the computing inspired by Nature. Over the past few years many Natural Computing strategies, ranging from Neural Networks, Evolutionary Computation, Fuzzy Sets, Support Vector Machines to Ant Colony Optimization, Particle Swarm Optimization, etc., have been successfully applied to the solution of complex problems including those proposed by Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. In this seminar I'll present some recent results obtained in the application of Natural Computing to the problems of class discovering, biomarker selection and genotyping using the DNA microarray technology. The proposed approaches exploit many Natural Computing methodologies, comprising clustering, classification, variable selection optimization, image analysis, and ensembles of learning machines.
