The aim of the course is to provide the students the tools needed for the analysis and interpretration of the biological data. Indeed, the course intends to give the theortical basis for the application of the principal bioinformatic tools, used in genomics and proteomics.
Structural Bioinformatics:
Intrduction to the biological databases: Organization andmethods for interrogation.
Sequence allignment techniques.
Protein evolution: Families and superfamilies, database search using similarity. Alignment significance. Programs: BLAST, FASTA, Psi-BLAST.
Prediction of the 3D protein structure.Comparative modelling. The conserved core of the protein. Steps in model building.
Quality checks.
Protein 3D structure prediction using Forld Recognition and Ab initio techniques.
Genomics:
Gen prediction. HMM techniques for pattern recognition.
ENSEMBL database.
Gen expression analysisi.
Data mining.
Human genome project and ENCODE project.
Functional annotation:
Gene onthology (GO).
Ortholog and paralog genes.
