This talk will explain the underpinnings of the major types of
calendars: solar (Gregorian, Julian, Persian, Hindu); lunar (Islamic);
lunisolar (Chinese, Hebrew, Hindu); cyclical (Mayan, Balinese). It
will concentrate on computational features of calendrical
calculations, but also dwell on historical and cultural aspects.
