The goal of the course is to show different tools that can be used to process different kinds of spatially referenced 2D and 3D data, like digital images and volumes and surface meshes.
Several basics Computational Geometry and graph theory tools will be applied to practical problems and tested in lab activities, in order to efficiently encode data, detect and segment structures of interest, characterize objects, align different acquisitions.
Capturing the 3D (2D) world
-Digital images and volumes, point clouds and surfaces
-Data acquisition, encoding and visualization
Segmentation of 2D and 3D data
-classification-based, graph based, contour based, model based.
Shape analysis:
-Descriptors applied to binary regions, curves and surfaces.
-Curvatures and curvature based characterization, spectral analysis
-Local and global descriptors
3D registration:
-methods based on point correspondences
-methods based on intensity matching
