The course is an introduction to finite element methods for partial differential equations. There is a laboratory part in which GNU Octave/Matlab and FreeFem++ software is analyzed and developed for the solution of partial differential equations by FEM.
Weak formulation for elliptic problems, Galerkin and Ritz methods, triangulation, quadrature, discontinuos elements, advection-diffusion-reaction equations, time-dependent equations, iterative methods for sparse linear systems, preconditioners, eigenvalues.
Advanced Numerical Analysis is not a prerequisite.
