The course offers a wide spectra of recognition-based techniques, well-suited for the humancomputer
interaction. This means going beyond the Norman’s interaction cycle, and disregarding the exclusive
use of standard devices (mouse, keyboard, monitor). Each of the technique is faced under a twofold point of view,
theoretical and practical. The theoretical point of view extends basic theorems of Pattern Recognition. The
practical point of view translates the theoretical aspects into algorithms which run on real data, by employing
MATLAB lab sessions.
Face-based interaction techniques: face detection, face recognition, facial expression recognition/
emotion recognition. Body-based interaction techniques: motion detection, tracking gesture recognition, pose
recognition, activity recognition
The exam consists in producing a project and in a discussion with the teacher about the themes faced in the project.
