Learning outcomes

This last section of the course deals with completeness and compactness in the real line. Moreover it is an introduction to ordinary differential equations: it deals with the first and second order linear equations, in particular the forced oscillations, and with separation of variables, in particular in order to show some Cauchy problems with and without uniqueness of solutions.

Syllabus

Cauchy sequences and completeness of the real line. Sequetial compactness. The Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem.
Linear equations of the first and second order. Forced oscillations. Separation of variables.
Cauchy problems with and without uniqueness of the solutions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam.
