INSOBILD is a project funded by Cariverona and ISOPAN SpA (Manni Group) aimed at developing two different manufacturing processes for innovative solar cells designed for integration into buildings.
CZTS (Cu2ZnSnSSe4) is a non-toxic, photovoltaically active material that is particularly suitable for production without the need for expensive vacuum deposition equipment. Within the INSOBILD project, we are researching and engineering a spray deposition process.
This process will make it possible to coat ISOPAN construction panels—using a simple spray application—with a CZTS-based, photovoltaically active film. The process offers significant cost reductions and allows for the integration of construction panel manufacturing and photovoltaic module production on the same assembly line. Another potential application involves developing the technology on flexible substrates to create lightweight devices that easily adapt to curved surfaces.
Sb2Se3 solar cells represent a new generation of technology; they are non-toxic, stable, and require minimal material usage. In INSOBILD, we are developing a simple, easily scalable process to produce high-efficiency solar cells suitable for use in IoT devices and sensors; consequently, we are also investigating their fabrication on flexible substrates to enable flexible device applications.
