FIRST PART COURSE SYLLABUS (Basic tools in game theory)

  • Modeling players’ preferences: Utility functions and expected utility. 
  • Games in extensive and normal form: Solving games by backward induction. Nash equilibria in games.
  • Zero-Sum games and mixed strategies. Nash equilibrium and linear programming.
  • Some classic games: The Prisoners’ Dilemma, the Dating Game, Chicken, the Ultimatum Game. An application to politics: the median voter theorem. Repeated games.
  • Simulation of Games through Agent Based Models: the Schelling’s segregation game. The persistence of ethnocentric behavior.
