We discuss recent work on near optimal points for multivariate polynomial interpolation. We will give explicit examples and also discuss the asymptotic spacing of such points for certain common sets. Moreover we describe a simple, highly efficient, greedy algorithm for the computation of good interpolation point sets.

This is work largely done in collaboration with the members of the Padova-Verona Research Group on "Constructive Approximation and Applications".
