Andrea Giachetti si occupa di vari aspetti del Visual Computing, dall'elaborazione immagini, alla grafica al calcolatore alla modellazione ed analisi di forme 3D, all'interazione in realtà virtuale.
Ha lavorato in vari progetti finanziati nell'ambito dell'elaborazione di immagini mediche ed è attualmente responsabile di progetti nell'ambito delle applicazioni della grafica ai beni culturali (Scan4Reco) ed al digital manufacturing (DSurf). Collabora al progetto multicentrico Vampire sull'elaborazione di immagini retiniche e a progetti relativi all'antropometria digitale.
E' presidente del capitolo italiano di Eurographics.
