Minicourse on modeling - autumn 2018

In the autumn 2018 Alice Raffaele and Romeo Rizzi will propose a new edition of their course on mathematical modeling. The precise period is still to be determined but we will stay in the window from the second half of november to X-mas.
If the interested students send us (To: Alice Raffaele <alice.raffaele@unitn.it>, CC: Romeo Rizzi <romeo.rizzi@univr.it>) mails to state their potential interest in the course, this might help our planning and scheduling. If you have preferences/constraints either about the topics or the calendar, please, feel free to express them.
PLANNED TOPICS FOR THE COURSE:
We are OR people, thus modeling means modeling by linear programming (LP) or by integer linear programming (PLI) or mixed integer linear programming (MILP).
Practical hands on: We will introduce to the modeling languages AMPL/GMPL and to the optimization suite Gurobi.
Theoretical fundamentals: We will touch on exact and approximation algorithms, branch&bounds, cutting planes and compact formulations.
OPPORTUNITIES:
We can propose both investigative projects meant for publications, suitable for thesis, and apllied projects of interest for firms with which we are collaborating.
