This project aimed at the deveopment of assisteive technologies in support of people with severe neurolgical disorders. The project was organized into two distinct phases. First we addressed the issues of home automation, to allow disabled people an independent living and to ease the difficulty of providing them with asuitbale assitance. During the second part of the project, we develop a wireless technology to track the movements of people within a large structure. The innovative aspects of the project was the ability to locate a persone both within his/her living area (in an apartment with suitable presence sensors) and in the outdoors, trhough a seamless switch from the indoor localizaiton method to an outdoor, gps-based, localization method. For privacy, the localization was only within a specific room, whereas outside we were able to track the motion of the person. The system was installed and tested on the premises on the Opera don Calabria, in Verona, and it was deemed ready for use with their resident patients.
